Barge Wayne
Located at the southwest corner of Townsend Inlet Reef at a distance of 1.3 NM is the 41-foot wreck of the barge Wayne, a 436 ton wooden schooner that sank Wednesday May 25, 1932. This long line of ribs is what is left of an old demasted schooner barge wth tall ribs, a donkey boiler and a pilothouse. This is an excellent novice dive even if limited by visibility, as the wreckage is contiguois with lot of lobster and fish holes.
Cold water coral is indigenous to these shallow water wrecks.
