In service from 1953 to 1983, the Cape Strait was stationed at Fort Tilden, NY. Deployed to Florida in 1963 to insure a show of force during the Cuban missile crisis. It's signifigant for divers to know on Thanksgiving 1964 she was dispatched to rescue survivors from the bow section of the Norwegian M/V Stolt Dagali, linking ship wreck history of the New Jersey coast.
